A bit about me

Before I became a teacher, I was a brother in a Roman Catholic religious order. Now I am married. I teach kindergarten because it has always been the job available. Other teachers don’t want to do it. I understand why. It is messy and exhausting. But it is the first step, and arguably the most important one. I think that the first step is always the hardest to take.

In my writing, I focus on the basics of faith. The most consistent theme is trust. I am learning to trust God. The ten commandments start with God saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.” (Exodus 20:2) Translation: Trust me. Let me help you. That is the first step, but it is a hard one to take. I write often of learning to trust God and let him help me.

There are other ideas that I would like to explore through my writing:

  1. When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment was, he said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ (Matthew 22:37) I am learning to love God as more than just a fan.

  2. My Guru in India (Yes, that is also part of my life) said that children are the closest to God. And Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’ (Matthew 18:3,4)

Through both religious life, and kindergarten, God has been active in helping me become a humbler, truer version of myself. I am not shy to talk about times when God has given me lessons in humility. That is a major subject of my writing.

I hope that you enjoy reading my posts. If it ever seems like I am making fun of students, I apologize. That is not my intention. But sometimes they say and do things which are very funny, and I use those events as the basis for a story about faith. I do not mean to insult the kids. They ARE closest to God, and I know that I have a lot to learn from them. But sometimes you have to find humour in tough situations. And, although I do not consider myself a hero, teaching kindergarten can be a tough situation.
